My work is as exciting for me today, as it was thirty years ago or more. Perhaps the reason for this is my constant battle for perfection of detail in every realm. Experience and experiment are always spurring me onward. I try to bring a maximum of excitement into even the smallest jewel.
I am influenced by my origins, and by my historic environment. Baroque, Rococo, Biedermeier, above all Jugendstil and the Wiener Werkstätte mark my past as well as the present which surrounds me.
Where does my inspiration come from? Of course I did my share of studies from nature at school and academy. I sketched in the Egyptian collection at the Louvre, and I drew details from Gothic cathedrals. I visited museums and exhibitions, I absorbed as much as possible and stored it within myself. What then comes out, is partly the sublimated extract from all these impressions, partly - must one explain everything? - my own creative self.
